Is HGTP supposed to be a replacement for HTTP and HTTPS?

And is there any other project out there working on this problem?

Unable to find direct references from the core team today but based on commentary they have discussed creating an instance so that when a state channel makes a request via http it also makes a request via hgtp .  If you go back to a recent Hypergraph Hour this was briefly mentioned by core team member Mr Diggles.

I have no doubt there are other projects working toward innovative updating of the very "old" http system we know for so long now.  No idea on specific projects.
